    El Economista[1] is a Mexican newspaper published Monday through Friday in Mexico City, focused on economic, financial and political information, although it also handles cultural, sports, international and opinion data. It distributes 40 thousand copies daily and as of 2019 has a readership of 145,743.

    On the other hand, there is another current that only considers as economists those who have a university degree in the subject. So much so that some economists’ associations require a university degree related to economics as a prerequisite for membership.
    Normally, to be an economist it is advisable to study at university. In fact, the reason why a person who obtains a university degree in economics is usually considered an economist is because he or she is considered to have gained enough knowledge to understand, analyze and study economics during his or her university studies.
    Although many parts of economics are covered, they are not studied in the same depth in all faculties. Even so, what is certain is that special attention is usually paid to econometrics, statistics, macroeconomics, microeconomics and finance. The other subjects are thus relegated to a secondary level.

    El Economista se publicó por primera vez el 28 de febrero de 2006,[2] siendo el cuarto diario económico de España[3][4] Los fundadores del diario son Alfonso de Salas, Juan Gonzales y Gregorio Pena, quienes también lanzaron el diario El Mundo[4][5] La Editorial Ecoprensa, S.A. es la editora del diario[6][7] cuyo director general es Salas[4][8].
    El periódico se dirige a un público profesional y moderno, así como a los inversores[3], y aboga por la libre competencia, la igualdad de las mujeres y la transparencia[3].
